For nearly a century, The Service Dining Rooms (SDR) has been a place of warmth, nourishment, community and hope for Cape Town's vulnerable communities. Offering affordable, nutritious meals to anyone in need.

Together, they form the backbone of our daily operations, ensuring that every meal is prepared and served with dignity, care, and consistency.

How To Get Involved
Every contribution, big or small, helps us to bring hope and nourishment to those who need it most.
At The Service Dining Rooms, every plate of food served is made possible by generous individuals and businesses like you. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, or contribute supplies, your support helps us continue our mission of providing dignified, affordable meals to Capetonians in need.
Not only do we serve our customers, but we also share what we can with a small group of off-site sub-beneficiaries eg orphanages, soup kitchens in outlying areas and homeless shelters.
If you’d like to further assist us, you can volunteer your time or skills. Our volunteers play a vital role in preparing meals, serving customers, cleaning up, or offering professional services that keep SDR running smoothly.
Beyond meals, we also accept donations of clothing, blankets, books, and small comforts to bring warmth, dignity, and a little joy to the lives of those we serve.

They feed at least 300 homeless people a day there. Asking for just R2 a meal. The kitchen is absolutely spotlessly clean. The staff are caring, and patient. The food is well prepared and nutritious. The helpings are large enough to satisfy the hungry.
